The Bodhisatta was once a vulture. His strong and stubborn son flew higher than any other vulture, and the Bodhisatta warned him that flying so high was dangerous. But he ignored this advice and one time flew into winds so fierce that they smashed him to death. Because he ignored the wise advice of elders, the foolish young vulture brought suffering on the family he left behind.

The young vulture was an earlier birth of an unruly disciple of the Buddha, who told him this story of his past so he knew that his disobedience had once led to his death.
